The author is mainly interested in the cognitive inspiration behind certain neuroscientific works that seek to describe a form of mental reality that might supplant psychic reality as described by psychoanalysis. He also considers a number of concepts extracted from both Freud’s pre-psychoanalytic work and his metapsychology in order to underline their profound modernity. The neurosciences are in fact quite willing to recognise Freud’s metapsychology and its foundations.
