Starting from the case of a patient whose breast cancer appeared in the course of her analysis, at a moment when a process of regression made infantile depression emerge, marked by a withdrawal into herself in the form of emotional rumination, the author wonders if there could be a link, other than that of a highly debateable direct causality,?between feelings of shame, guilt, and the outbreak of somatic illness.
