A certain number of somatic illnesses, where the onset of the illness and its evolving modalities—sometimes both unexpected and remarkable—and where the relational and psycho-affective life of these patients seems to be a determining factor, justify an interdisciplinary approach on both the theoretical and clinical levels. But interdisciplinarity raises a number of epistemological questions. The author centres his argument on one particular issue, the problems raised in translating concepts from one discipline to another.
