The beginnings of the treatment sometimes mobilise a mass of mysterious and all-encompassing cathexis that condenses the immeasurable love that binds the infant to the parental divinities and excesses of oedipal excitation. Through the displacements it organises and the wrench from the primal objects it triggers, the transference is felt as an abandonment or even a betrayal of these primary love objects, accompanied by a dread of being betrayed and abandoned by them. This movement is traced by the clinical account of the treatment of a young woman torn apart by her object choices and involved in the repetition of disappointment and sacrifice.
