The paper analyzes some case studies of interaction between public authorities and social economy initiatives in the framework of the Italian law 109/96 on “Provisions for dealing with the managing and destination of goods confiscated from organized crime.” This is an instructive, although very specific, example of the way in which social and solidarity economy initiatives can provide a framework of action capable of modifying practices of government intervention.
