The unconscious ego is envisaged here as a dynamic entity whose heterogeneous roots extend over a gradient of symbolization in the intrapsychic spaces, in waking and oneiric life, in association with the external and interpsychic spaces. Its functioning helps to create and organise the spectrum of alterity interwoven with the spectrum of identity, traversing and cathecting animate and inanimate objects. Different hypotheses are put forward for consideration.
