Collective reason today: Illusion or reality?

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2016. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : "Is the notion of collective reason illusory or effective? If this notion is not illusory, how would it be possible to deliver its meaning through concepts? As an empirical field, we have chosen scientific research and, more generally, the quest for truth. The question then becomes: does the creativity of a research team depend only on the creativity of the sum of its members? Or are there cases in which the collectivity as such is creative? If such a conjecture is grounded, is it a mere belief, or even a “true opinion” (hortè doxa)? Or should it be possible to transform this belief into a logically and experimentally testable position? Based on Gilbert Simondon’s works and on an experiment carried out by the mathematicians Timothy Gowers and Terence Tao, we conclude that collective discovery is a reality; but it implies a form of intellectual and spiritual revolution: individuals must abandon their attachment to themselves and to their tribal identity. It is fragile, for it is vulnerable to denial and regression. "
