The Dhy? nic Zen Tea Record, once erroneously attributed to Rinzai Takuan S?h? (1573-1645) but only published in its final version in 1818, which is here translated in French, establishes a series of links between tea and spiritual life according to Buddhism. It deals with the culture and the art of tea (ch.II), with the tea ceremony and its variants, but primarily with the relations between the master-host and the guest. Through these “refinements” (chap. VII) and “sobriety” (chap. V), one reaches a moment in which there exists something like a “tea without guest nor master”.
