This article analyzes psychic transmission across generations, and its role in the structuring of the marital bond. We will study the influence of the families of origin on the couple and its effect on the development of the couple’s identity. To this end, we will observe the means of psychic transmission as well as the Negative and the marital bond. Throughout a narration of the story of a couple’s life, we will note the marks of the family legacy in the structuring of that marital bond. The decline of the male role over the course of several generations of the families of origin and the psychic transmission of male fragility are noted. The conclusions show above all that the psychic legacy was determinant in constituting the marital bond and made establishment of the couple’s identity more difficult.
