Originally a leisure trip, tourism implies for its participants the practice of a Grand Tour, far away from everyday habits and off the beaten track, whereby the experience is supposed to take shape in different forms, in particular, that of adventure. Mass tourism—made possible by the democratization of travel and holidays, international agreements, the simplification of exchanges, and more sophisticated and efficient technologies—has brought in its wake a specific adventure system, which is both programmed and accessible: the tourism of terror.
