LGBT Couples and Families in Family and Couple Therapy

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2013. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : LGBT couples and families have often been ignored in family and couple therapy. This silence is maintained by the heterocentrism that influenced the definition of couple, family, and family relations as well as their “normality” vs. “pathology.” Whether we are researchers or clinicians, it is interesting to consider the impact of homophobia, heterosexism, and heteronormativity in the lives of these couples, families, and children. Especially in the clinical consultation, it seems important to assess the degree of stress, relational ambiguity, and internalized homonegativity, and social support. We will consider also the strengths and limitations of the major models of couples therapy and family therapy, as well as the need to consider the ways to include LGBT issues in therapist training. Training could be based on diversity as an inclusive model of family differences.
