RésuméFreud a mis en évidence la subjectivité du regard et son aspect pulsionnel. Le tour d’écrou, roman d’Henry James, illustre à merveille cette conception et les diverses dimensions du regard. À travers l’histoire d’une institutrice confrontée à deux enfants et aux fantômes qui les cernent, James déroule une « boucle étrange » au sens de Hofstadter. Une approche psychanalytique du texte met en évidence la multiplicité des jeux de regards et l’ambiguïté des situations et des personnages confrontant le lecteur aux mystères de la sexualité infantile.

Freud as highlighted the subjectivity of look and its instinctive aspect. The Turn of screw, Henry Jame’s novel, is a good illustration of this conception and the various dimensions of the look. Threw the story of the teacher confronted with two children and the ghosts surrounding them, James unfold a « strange loop » as defined by Douglas Hofstadter. A psychoanalytical approach of the novel, shows the multiplicity of the look’s plays and the ambiguity of situations and characters, confronting the reader with infantile sexuality mysteries.
