Collaboration académique dans les cadres idéologiques derrière le rideau de fer : l’expédition germano‑albanaise de 1957 Cet article traite des liens entre la politique, l’idéologie et la pratique ethnographique en s’appuyant sur le cas de l’expédition ethnomusicologique germano‑albanaise de 1957. L’article montre que la fragilité de la coopération scientifique et les limites de la liberté d’action des chercheurs, à la fois dans leur champ de compétence et au sein de leurs institutions scientifiques, sont dues au caractère hautement officiel entre deux états frères communistes, la rda et l’Albanie. Il décrit ensuite les défis méthodologiques posés par une revisite du terrain en 2004, s’appuyant sur des méthodes historiques, et des interviews à la recherche de documents photographiques et audio afin « d’inviter l’archive sur le terrain ».

Academic Collaboration in Ideological Frameworks behind the Iron Curtain: The German‑Albanian Expedition of 1957 The article is concerned with the interplay between politics, ideology and ethnographic practice ‑ taking as an example in case the German‑Albanian ethnomusicological expedition of 1957. The article points out that such a highly official endeavour of two socialist brother states, the GDR and Albania, was a fragile ground for scientific collaboration limiting the agency of the researchers both in their field and within their academic institutions. It also describes the methodological challenges imposed by a revisiting fieldwork in 2004 employing oral history methods, photo and audio elicitation interviews in an attempt to “bring the archive into the field”.

Este articulo trata de las relaciones entre política, ideología, y la practica etnográfica, a partir de la expedición etnomusicológica germano‑albanesa del 1957. Demostramos que la fragilidad de la cooperación científica y los límites de la libertad de acción de los investigadores, tanto en su campo de competencias como de sus instituciones científicas, se debían al carácter altamente oficial de las relaciones entre los dos estados comunistas “hermanos”, la RDA y Albania. Describimos después los desafíos metodológicos planteados por una visita de terreno en el 2004, apoyándonos sobre métodos históricos e interviús, buscando documentos fotográficos y audios, con el fin de “llevar el archivo sobre el terreno”.

Dieser Artikel beschreibt die Zusammenhänge zwischen Politik, Ideologie und ethnographischer Praxis. Er stützt sich auf das Fallbeispiel der deutsch‑albanischen musikethnologischen Expedition im Jahr 1957. Der Artikel zeigt die Problematik einer wissenschaftlichen Zusammenarbeit unter engen ideologischen Rahmenbedingungen auf und beleuchtet die begrenzten Handlungsspielraüme der Wissenschaftler innerhalb ihrer Forschungsinstitutionen und im ethnographischen Feld, die sich durch den offiziellen Charakter einer Gemeinschaftsexpedition zweier sozialistischer Bruderstaaten, der DDR und Volksrepublik Albanien, ergeben. Der Artikel widmet sich in einem zweiten Schritt den methodologischen Herausforderungen, die eine revisiting‑Feldforschung 2004 aufwirft. Er fragt inwieweit oral history Methoden aber auch photo und audio elicitation gewinnbringend angewandt werden können um Archivmaterial in einen Dialog mit dem ethnographischen Feld zu bringen.
