Before the temporal or chronological perception of authority inherited from the Romans, there was the Greeks’ spatial conceptualization of authority. The latter’s characteristics help us approach an aspect of authority as it develops in an institution welcoming teenagers. This specific form of authority, which is passed along like a baton, helps to organize all the psychic movements in connection with the teenager in care, allowing for a certain type of obedience in which the subject steps away from injunction.
