RésuméAprès un rapide historique de l’époque pré-européenne et du temps de la découverte mutuelle de l’île la plus méridionale de l’archipel néo-calédonien, nous étudierons la période de l’évangélisation puis la mise en place d’une quasi-théocratie consentie. La Christianisation de l’île des Pins ne correspond pas au modèle d’évangélisation dominant basé sur le rapport deux tiers – un tiers. L’île Kunié correspond au second modèle d’évangélisation océanienne, qui consiste en l’articulation entre un pouvoir coutumier déjà prédominant et l’implantation victorieuse d’une église chrétienne. Nous développerons enfin les résultats, hier et aujourd’hui, de cette alliance entre les pouvoirs temporels et spirituels.

The evangelisation of Pine Island in New Caledonia : a study of the different models of procedureAfter a brief historical presentation of the pre-european period and the mutual discovery of the most southerly island of the New Caledonian archipelago, we shall study the period of evangelization and the setting up of a quasi-theocratic form of government. The chistianisation of Pine Island does not follow the dominant model of evangelization, based on the balance of two-thirds/one third ; Kunié Island is an example of the second model of Oceanic evengelisation, which links together a longestablished traditional power with the victorious implantation of a Christian Church. We will then draw out the results, from yesterday and today, of this alliance between temporal and spiritual powers.
