Functional anorectal pain belongs to the broader framework of chronic pelvi-perineal pain Such pain is characterized by a normal clinical examination with non-specific imaging. Anorectal manometry is not prescribed as much as it should although it could add numerous and useful data. Main anomalies described are increased anal basal pressure, ultra-slow waves and anorectal dyssynergia. Others anomalies are sometimes described: rectal sensitivity disorders, abnormal reflex, dysfunction of the puborectalis muscle and/or pelvic floor disorders. Anorectal manometry contributions in anorectal pain are thus important both on the physiopathological and therapeutical sides. Only a better diffusion of this exam and studies with more patients will allow good quality studies and improvement in our practice.
