In 1975, 26 years after the publication of The Second Sex there was a world-wide development of feminism. But the thinking behind the work, captured in the explosive formula “One is not born, but rather becomes, woman,” is often deformed. The article goes over the meaning: no essence, no nature, no destiny defines woman’s being, but for women to reach a free existence, it is necessary to fight individually as well as collectively.
