New financial documents from Argos currently being published force us to rewrite a part of the history of the city in the fourth century BC. In this paper, we correct or complete some outdated assumptions about relationships between Argos and its neighbors: Kleonai, Sparta, Thyreatis, and Epidaurus. The following facts can be considered as proved: 1) Argos took over the presidency of the Nemean Games as soon as it could, while leaving their organization to the people of Kleonai – at least as long as the games were held in the sanctuary of Nemea; 2) Argos conquered Thyreatis in 370/69, as evidenced by Diodorus XV.63.4-65, although the city probably could not keep the country; 3) during the fourth century Argos could establish for some time a kind of cleruchy at Epidaurus.
