‪Faced with the complexities of today’s societies, sports journalists experience new challenges that test their critical abilities and their understanding of reality. Media treatment of sports, reflecting social change, has become increasingly defined by a fascination for the visible and for digital cultures, by spectacularization and controversy, as well as by a thickening of the present. Issues such as the environment, human relations, racism, religion and conflict are also now increasingly taken into account. Both involved and accused, the sports journalist has become an “assisted witness” to these phenomena.‪
