RÉSUMÉMalgré les discours officiels, l’Entente dite « cordiale » entre Français et Britanniques est soumise à rude épreuve au cours de la Première Guerre mondiale. Sur tous les théâtres d’opérations surgissent de profondes divergences d’analyse, portées à leur paroxysme sur les fronts secondaires, africains et moyen-orientaux en particulier. Le Royaume-Uni, épargné par la guerre sur son propre sol, conserve une capacité d’action internationale que ne peut plus se permettre la République française. Ces oppositions portent en germe les tensions franco-britanniques qui suivent la signature du traité de Versailles et les crises diplomatiques de l’entre-deux-guerres.

ABSTRACT In spite of the official speeches, the so-called « Entente cordiale » between France and Great Britain had to suffer in a hard way during World War I. On all the operation’s theatres, deeply analysis divergences appeared and reached their paroxysm on the secondary fronts, especially on the African and the Middle-East’s ones. The United Kingdom escaped from the war on its own ground and preserves a capability of overseas operations that France cannot afford. Those difficulties explains the Franco-British difficulties after the Treaty of Versailles and the diplomatic crises of the Twenty’s.
