Les Nefs des folz forment au début de l’ère moderne un ensemble cohérent de textes didactiques composés à partir du Narrenschiff de S. Brant. L’examen de la place du latin dans la diffusion d’une littérature vernaculaire met en évidence l’existence d’une Europe des livres dont la réception passe dans le cas des Nefs par une référence à la satire latine absente du texte allemand et une adaptation au contexte politique propre à chaque aire géographique.

At the beginning of modern times, The Ships of fools are part of a consistent set of didactic texts, all based on Sebastian Brant’s Narrenschiff. By studying the role of latin in the spread of vernacular literature, I will show the existence of a “European book network” at the dawn of the 16th century. In the case of The Ships, the reception of these works in vernacular is supported by a common reference to the latin satire, not found in the german text and an adaptation to the political context relevant for each geographical area.
