L’arrogance s’accompagne d’une permanente démonstration de supériorité à l’égard de l’autre, destinée à le maintenir au niveau inférieur. On peut l’envisager sur un plan individuel mais aussi d’un point de vue sociétal et politique lorsque sont concernés l’esprit de caste, l’impérialisme, le racisme. Dans cet article, l’auteur montre à partir de l’analyse des textes des théoriciens du racisme (Boulainvilliers, Gobineau, Rosenberg) en quoi l’apodicticité de leurs arguments constitue en soi une violence arrogante.

Arrogance is accompanied by a permanent demonstration of superiority over another individual, designed to maintain that person in a position of inferiority. This may take place not only on the personal level but also the social and political level when such ideas as cast, imperialism and racism are concerned. This paper takes theoretical texts on racism as its starting point (Boulainvilliers, Gobineau, Rosenberg) to show how the apodicticity of their arguments is in itself a form of arrogant violence.
