RésuméLe présent travail vise à expliquer la notion d’informel au sein des organisations en s’appuyant sur deux théories complémentaires : la théorie des organisations et la théorie des institutions. Malgré ces apports incontestables, l’informel reste une notion inévitablement attachée à une autre telle que l’organisation et l’institution. Peu de recherches considèrent l’informel comme objet théorique à part entière. Ainsi, nous essayons de théoriser l’informel pour comprendre cette notion tant discutée et discutable. Nous concluons que l’informel, du fait de son importance et de sa transdisciplinarité, doit être appréhendé comme un méta-concept dans l’étude des organisations. Thinking informal. Non-concept or meta-concept for management?The aim of this paper is to explain the concept of informal within organizations. To that purpose we use two complementary theories: the organization theory and the institutional theory. In spite of undeniable contributions, informal remains inevitably linked with different concepts such as informal organization or informal institution. Few researches consider informal as a theoretical object. Thus we try to theorize informal and to understand this controversial concept. We conclude that informal because of its importance and interdisciplinarity has to be seen as a meta-concept in the study of organizations.
