This work aimed to evaluate the antioxidant and antibacterial activities of the aqueous extracts (AE) of the leaves and flowers of Bituminaria bituminosa(L.). The results revealed that both the leaves and flowers contained high levels of total phenols, estimated respectively at 141.4 ± 1.43 mg CAE/g extract and 128.11 ± 3.00 mg CAE/g extract. Furthermore, the FRAP test showed that the reducing power of the leaf AE was higher (64.27 ± 2.97 mg TE/g extract) than that of the flower AE (53.61 ± 3.81 mg TE/g extract). The scavenging capacity of DPPH (2,2′-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) free radical was very interesting, with an IC50 value of 0.203 ± 0.002 mg/ml for the leaf AE and 0.457 ± 0.003 mg/ml for the flower AE. Furthermore, both extracts exhibited protective antiradical activity, indicated by a significant half-hemolysis time of 133.61 ± 1.22 min and 103.45 ± 6.63 min for the leaves and flowers, respectively. As for testing antimicrobial activity, the leaf AE proved more effective than the flower AE. The former extract exhibited remarkable activity against all tested strains. The effect of this extract is significant against Bacillus subtilis, with a maximum inhibition zone of approximately 13.33 ± 0.57 mm.
