The Catholic Church occupies an important place in the political and social life of the Congo. This is due both to its long-standing and widespread presence in the country, and to its incorporation into the local culture and daily life of the population. We know that it played a major role in the colonization of various countries, as one of the cornerstones of the “colonial trinity.” But the difficulties it went through during the first decades of decolonization brought it closer to the people, particularly thanks to its multiple and diversified social initiatives. Today, the political involvement of the Catholic Church has led to it making a major contribution in the fight for democracy and the rule of law.
