At the beginning of the 14th c., theologians at Oxford gave attention to the problem of the revelation of future contingents, through academic hypotheses or examples taken from the Scripture which they analysed with an unsparing logic. The first detailed list of these cases (often cases of conscience) is found in Richard Fitzralph’s lecture on the Sentences. A subsequent study will reckon with the consequences of these discussions and follow their fate after Fitzralph.
