Similar to their comrades of the First World War, the Jewish veterans founded associations dedicated to the defense of their own interests and the assertion of their patriotism. Two associations, with quite different political sympathies, are founded during the thirties with papers to express their purposes: the Association of the Jewish Volunteers (ACVJ) publishes The Jewish Volunteer (1931-1935), and the Patriotic Union of the French Israelites (UPFI) a Bulletin (1935-1938). Both these papers give evidence of the contradictions existing in the French society, and the torments which already befall the Jewish community previous to the Second World war.
