If Evrecy has attracted the attention of medieval historians up to now, it is essentially for the Early Middle Ages. The following period has been the subject of fewer studies. However, charters preserved in the Departmental Archives of Calvados provide valuable information on the eleventh to thirteenth centuries. Thus, after recalling the position of Evrecy within the Duchy of Normandy, between the bishops of Bayeux and the counts of Gloucester, this article focuses on the gradual emergence, from the eleventh century, of a lineage named Evrecy. More specifically, it considers the paths of the members of this “topolineage” in terms of social mobility and studies the strategies they used to claim their elite status and affiliation to the aristocracy.
