3.5 km north-west of Sées, chief town of the Sagii, the sanctuary of Hernies was the subject of a research excavation from 2005 to 2007. A first phase of occupation, dating from the beginning of the Augustan period, saw the construction of a simple quadrangular building with a central hearth linked to a centered plan. The monumental phase of development occurred during the reigns of Caligula and Claudius, with the construction of a second square building surrounded by a gallery and nine square aediculae in courtyards circumscribed by a peribolos. Ceremonial practices consisted of animal sacrifices and offerings: coins, adornments, terracotta statuettes, pottery, and domestic objects. In the second half of the third century, the partial dismantling of the structures is noticeable. Part of the site was redeveloped at the beginning of the fourth century with the reuse of several aediculae and the construction of huts and a new building.
