After the Second World War, some professors at the Catholic University of Louvain decided to integrate critical sociology into their teaching and research. For this, they had to empower the sociology of the religious field and abandon the scholastic model. They also had to ask epistemological questions about the discipline. The challenge was to settle the question of morality, to create a sociology that allowed itself to think about the questions of the family, of sexuality, of the determination of the individual by the social and, to a certain extent, of the religion. This approach forced them to move away from moral philosophy. Finally, they had to position themselves as scientific researchers, that is, to show their independence from religion and the state. By the early 1970s, we can say that the implementation of sociology at the Catholic University of Louvain was successful. Its researchers no longer worked to practice Catholic sociology but were Catholics who did sociology.
