This article begins with the life-stories of two Congolese-Zairean businessmen now living in Switzerland, where each has created a fund transfer company towards Congo-Zaire, mainly for compatriots. It explores the risks and the challenges to their survival, as well as the role that such capitalistic ventures play in the larger context of economic globalisation as well as in the narrower context of institutional chaos to be found in today’s Congo.
