Women and dining halls: A hope for the emancipation? - 2017.
29
The dining hall is situated on the intersection of public and private spheres and is therefore a privileged place for an analysis of women’s oppression in both spheres. This study compares the organization of canteens for women workers and the recognition of their work in France and in USSR in the interwar period. Although the political and economic contexts are different as well as the representations of the woman's work, a shared patriarchal system explains the sex segregation of work and space in both countries.
