French and American hearings offer two different logics of the elaboration of truth. While in France the President directs the hearing in order to get to the bottom of the truth, in the United States each party's representatives go face to face to ensure that their own truth wins the day. Each judicial culture has a specific relationship with emotions in the production of evidence. Whereas in France emotions are guided and moderated in order to establish the truth, in the United States the hearing is dominated by the quest for the most convincing emotion.
