Having ceased practicing as an analytically oriented psychotherapist, the author reviews her professional career in the light of the evolution of her countertransference position. Among all the patients that she saw during her twenty years of activity, she chose to center first and foremost on one of them for whom the work lasted almost as long as her own professional activity. This retroactive exploration allows the author to implement concepts such as first impression countertransference, psychoanalytic empathy, and double transference.
