This article highlights the fact that the normal state of life is not stability but imbalance. It proposes a hybrid approach which is not the resolution of but the tension between contradictory terms. This conception of transformation calls for a questioning of a European universalism conceived in the mode of a theoretical a priori. The universal cannot be achieved because it is in permanent co-construction.
