Study objectiveTo study the predictive factors of blood transfusion in total hip prosthesis.Materials and methodsRetrospective study of 65 cases of total hip prosthesis. Epidemiological data (age, sex, and body mass index) and the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) scores of these patients were analyzed, along with recommendations for prosthesis fitting.ResultsThe mean age was 58.2 years with a male predominance of 64%. Among the 65 patients included, 37 patients were classified as ASA 1, 23 were classified as ASA 2, and 5 patients as ASA 3. Recommendations for total hip prosthesis were dominated by primary hip osteoarthritis, followed by inflammatory coxitis, post-traumatic hip arthritis, and femoral neck fracture.ConclusionThe predictors for blood transfusion found in our study were age, type of anesthesia, and preoperative hemoglobin level. Preoperative evaluation of the patient’s condition and perioperative anesthetic management remain essential.
