After being submitted and then taken over by czarism, affected and scattered by the revolution and eventually wiped out by communism, the Cossackry is back in Russia as well as in Ukraine. But after nearly two centuries of consumed death, how should this revival be considered? Can we talk of the genuine resurgence of a movement that rises from its ashes owing to a favorable climate or is this the manifestation of a final reclaiming that draws more from folklore than from the reality of history.
