Cholangioscopy enables endoscopic exploration of the bile ducts. It can be used for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Its role in the evaluation of indeterminate biliary strictures is crucial. In cases where standard sampling techniques (brush cytology and endobiliary biopsies) fail, cholangioscopy allows direct visualization of the stricture and targeted biopsies. Various visual criteria have been described to differentiate benign from malignant strictures. Images of neovascularization have been studied the most. There is a moderate increased risk of cholangitis and pancreatitis.
