Urban manufacturing refers to the emergence of new forms of local production within urban environments, integrating economic, social, and environmental values. A major challenge is the scaling-up of these initiatives, which must grow without losing their territorial anchoring or flexibility. This research, conducted within the framework of the Horizon Europe LAUDS Factories project, combines a systematic literature review and a living lab approach at the third place l’Octroi-Nancy. This immersive method aims to test hypotheses derived from the state of the art regarding the adaptability of spaces and the levers for scaling up, involving users and local stakeholders. The goal is to understand how to support the sustainable development of urban factories on a larger scale, taking into account local dynamics. This research highlights the importance of considering scaling-up from the co-design phase of an urban manufacturing project to ensure the emergence of ecosystemic innovation and strengthen the resilience of cities.
