If one considers human reality to be based on psychic mechanisms, one can analyse Law from an original perspective. As a psychic phenomenon, Law appears as bearing representations and images of the legal professions: The psychic function of Law could be to provide satisfaction to jurists’ narcissism in the accomplishment of their duty. That is as true for the community of jurists within society devoted to public interest, as it is for jurists as individuals (judges, barristers, bureaucrats?). It is thus possible to show that jurisprudence, functioning as a “science,” also contributes to fulfilling the role of satisfying the narcissistic needs of jurists.
