Une araignee tueuse l’a piquée et a mis son venin - 2025.

Based on a study on the causes of marital separation, this article analyses how gender dynamics generate domestic and sexual dissatisfaction among couples of young, professionally active parents. By interviewing both members of each former couple, it reveals the gap in marital experiences. The first section explores the reasons behind growing dissatisfaction, through unequal domestic involvement and women’s increasing rejection of a sexuality centred on serving the relationship. The second section describes how a breaking point is reached – when the couple no longer fulfils its functions of protection and enhancement of the relationship, hindering the very possibility of a new function. Without though the possibility of fulfilment diminishes, women (still) find themselves servicing the relationship, a situation they increasingly question. The rising number of separations is thus less the result of growing individualism than a result of the failure to achieve the project of equality within the couple.
