The quid pro quo for density. How developers bring dense housing to life (and sell it)

The quid pro quo for density. How developers bring dense housing to life (and sell it) - 2025.
32
Against the backdrop of the sustainable and dense city model, the production of large multi-unit housing by real estate developers in France meets the public authorities’ objective of limiting urban sprawl while encouraging home ownership. However, household aspirations run counter to this density imperative. In Nantes, some real estate developers are offering new residential buildings that include shared services and spaces as a compensation for density. It appears that this emerging real estate offering is both spatially and socially selective. It reveals a growing commodification around collective housing based on a greater diversity of residential products and dedicated engineering solutions.
