Trans people experience gender social mobility throughout their lives, leading them to experience a new gendered socialisation in adulthood. Their experiences offer a unique perspective from which to study lifelong socialisation processes. This article looks again at the mechanisms of gendered socialisation in public spaces, based on the experiences of trans people in such spaces. The central role of male violence in the internalisation of fears and avoidance practices is reaffirmed. Comparing the experiences of trans people who are differently positioned in terms of class, gender and race provides information on the mechanisms of social hierarchisation that take place through and in public spaces. In the face of a socialisation of public spaces that is predominantly male, the study reveals multiple forms of minority socialisation.
