Emotional education in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder: Outcomes and perspectives - 2016.

Children usually learn to adjust their emotional expressions and understand those of others through social exchanges. Most children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) require special support for this type of learning. The methodology of an emotional education is of special interest for researchers in the realm of development, as well as for parental and professional practices. The present article offers a review of this issue. We argue that emotional socialization of children with ASD may not be considered only in terms of emotional training programs, but may be seen as an interpersonal process influenced by individual, family, and environmental factors. We propose that an effective socialization of emotions is based on the co-construction of emotional regulation skills between children and their family members or other partners.
