Uvwamoja: The healing power of the collective - 2026.
77
Cyclone Chido, followed by Tropical Cyclone Dikeledi, largely devasted the island of Mayotte in December 2024 and January 2025, affecting the entire population, which remains deeply impacted. Following the reopening of the CMPEA (medical and psychological center for children and adolescents), child and adolescent psychiatric consultations resumed despite ongoing logistical difficulties. Children already under care and their families were given the opportunity to express themselves, alongside post-Chido consultations dedicated to climate-related concerns. This study examines the initial consultations conducted between December 31, 2024, and April 11, 2025, and analyzes children’s accounts to examine how they articulated their perception of the cyclone, despite the challenges inherent to their preexisting conditions.
