IntroductionIn view of growing needs related to older people’s loss of autonomy, we should try to envisage alternatives to nursing homes. In this context, the aim of our study was to assess the effect of an enhanced home care model on the evolution of frailty in older people whose health conditions could have justified them entering a nursing home.MethodsA retrospective observational study focusing on changes in the SEGA score and other variables reflecting frailty in people aged over 75 in relation to conventional home care, institutionalization, or enhanced home care.ResultsThe average SEGA scores of the Ehpad-@-Dom (enhanced home care) and SAD (conventional home care) groups are significantly better than that of the Ehpad group after 6 months (T6: Ehpad-@-Dom vs Ehpad, p = 0.01 and SAD vs Ehpad, p = 0.039) and 12 months (T12: Ehpad-@-Dom vs Ehpad, p = 0.021).Conclusion“Enhanced home care” seems to be an alternative to the conventional nursing home model.
