This article first reconstructs the Gramscian interpretation of Machiavelli through the fragments found in various notebooks, particularly Notebook 13. Second, it shows how this interpretation, far from being a mere erudite reconstruction, is central to the redefinition of the Marxist theory of history and of the political party.
