In this article, we look at the impact of the introduction of a surgical robot on the activities of an operating room located within a Centre Hospitalier Régional Universitaire (CHRU) (Regional University Hospital Center) in the Grand Est region (France). From a pragmatist perspective, aiming at co-constructing meaning with actors in the field, we carried out documentary research on the subject, observations within the operating room, a video recording and photographs of a three-hour urology surgery, self-confrontation interviews with the team members who participated in the filmed procedure, and an inter-professional and interdisciplinary workshop on the surgical robot. The analysis of the data produced yielded several results. First of all, we were able to highlight the underlying logic and the specific impacts of the surgical robot. These effects must be qualified, however, insofar as some of them could be mitigated by the implementation of discussion spaces dedicated to work-based learning. Finally, the organizational changes that accompanied the introduction of the surgical robot were limited by the application of new public management rules in the hospital studied.
