Following the failure of attempts at regional integration in the wake of the drive for independence in Africa, numerous attempts at integration were conducted in the 1990s. This raises the question of whether these renewed attempts, which are partly based on the implementation of organizational, structural, and institutional changes of a more constraining nature as well as on the growing power of non-domestic agencies will be able to offer the necessary conditions for integration in an effort to help speed up the development of African economies.
