The African-American Afrocentric discourses that appeared in the early 1990s rethink the black presence in world and national histories through space and territory. African-American Afrocentrists in search of an African memory invent their Africa made of cities, kingdoms, civilizations and countries that embody what they call the global “African experience”. This article analyzes the Afrocentric historiographic uses of notions such as continents, diaspora and space.
